Hancock Movie Review Summary

Actors: Will Smith, Charlize Theron, Jason Bateman

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Hancock

Hancock is immortal, has superstrength, and can even fly, but he is also homeless and an alcoholic, with amnesia of anything that happened before 1930 or so. His drinking makes him extremely dangerous when fighting crime, and the citizens routinely boo him when he shows up, knowing he is likely to cause massive property damage and endanger lives because he is often drunk. He is also in legal hot water for said damage and vigilante activity.

After he saves a PR executive called Ray, his luck seems to change when Ray offers to help him clean up his image. He advises Hancock to turn himself in his outstanding warrants, this proving how much he is needed when the crime rate skyrockets as soon as he is incarcerated and criminals get bolder. The police pardon him, and with a new costume and cleaned up attitude Hancock proceeds to become a popular superhero again and the city loves him.

But things get complicated when Ray's wife Mary reveals to Hancock that she is also a super powered immortal, and she knows who Hancock really is and what he has forgotten. She tells him they are 3000 year old beings and that whenever they meet again things get dangerous. They argue and the argument turns into a fight, and as they start using their superpowers things escalate and they lay waste to several city blocks.

Later Ray confronts the two of them and Mary admits to him who she really is, and further that Hancock is her mate. But she explains that she is happier living a normal life away from him. This depresses Hancock, who leaves and goes to a liquor store to get drunk. While he is there it gets held up and the robber shoots him, shocking him when he sees that the bullet has actually injured him. He collapses and wakes up in the hospital.

Mary visits him in the hospital and confesses one last secret; when two immortals remain close for too long their powers fade and they become moral. She and Hancock have gone through this before, and they have enemies who know their secret. And once again they are vulnerable to attack.
Best part of story, including ending: I liked the basic concept of immortal beings who are both drawn to each other and endangered for it.

Best scene in story: The first scene of Hancock drunkenly fighting crime is very well done.

Opinion about the main character: He is not supposed to be likeable, and is generally abrasive.
