Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Henry Fool

This black comedy is about a loser, aptly named Simon Grim. A garbage man who's regularly hassled by the neighborhood toughs, Simon lives at home with his Prozac-addled mom and his libidinous sister. All three of their lives are changed when the title character, a mysterious drifter, moves into their lower-middle class home.

Henry, a loquacious, sexually confident poseur, decides to act as Simon's mentor. Henry convinces Simon to take up writing, and Simon composes an epic poem. While written in nearly flawless iambic pentameter, it is also sexually graphic and highly scatological. Thus, it's no surprise that most of the community is rankled when the opus is published in the local paper. However, it's eventually embraced by literati, who treat Simon as a celebrity. Simon's family, as well as Henry, who has harbored literary aspirations of his own, have a hard time accepting Simon's new-found success.
