Roger, the egomaniacal director of the movie decides to add a record-breaking and highly dangerous to the end of the already over budget film.
Hooper and Ski agree to jump over a 300 foot gorge in a rocket propelled car.
However, after a visit to the doctor where he learns that one more bad landing could leave him paralyzed, Hooper gives it some further thought and decides that it's too dangerous, so he backs out. But, after some begging by his friend, the movie's producer, he decides to come back and help Ski do the stunt.
As Hooper and Ski begin the car chase, they discover that they're losing fuel pressure in the rocket. Despite the pressure being well below what they need for the stunt, they attempt it anyway. They soar across the gorge, stick the landing and skid to a stop.
Hooper and Ski emerge safe and healthy having set a new record.
