Elissa and her single mom move in to a new house, and she learns that the house next to theirs was the site of brutal murders of a husband and wife, killed by an insane daughter Carrie Anne, who is believed to be dead, but her body was never found. Ryan, Carrie Anne's brother now lives alone in the house and Elissa befriends him. Elissa pities Ryan's lonesome existence and ostration from society, so she spends more time with him. However she notices strange things like empty colored contact lens boxes in the trash, as well as Ryan's sporadic bursts of anger. Apparently, Ryan has been taking care of a grown Carrie Anne in the basement, however Elissa learns that the girl is in fact not Carrie Anne but a waitress that he abducted to become Carrie Anne. Ryan knows that Elissa knows and attacks her, wanting to replace the current Carrie Anne with her. While being kept in the house, Elissa's mom and an officer come to look for her. The officer is killed, and Elissa's mom is stabbed. Elissa however gets the gun, and shoots Ryan. In the end we learn that Ryan was the one who killed his parents because they were devastated by the death of a young Carrie Anne, and since then they've been treating him as their dead daughter.

Best part of story, including ending:
It throws you in for a loop as you find out the truth.
Best scene in story:
When you see that there's a girl being hidden in the basement.
Opinion about the main character:
Elissa was too much of a samaritan for her own good, and she got in trouble for it.
