In this successful Broadway musical adaption, window washer J. Pierpont Finch buys a how-to book on how to climb the corporate ladder. Starting in the mailroom, he climbs positions one after the other by being sneaky, manipulative, and playing on his superiors' sympathies. He continually outsmarts the president's nephew, who believes he deserves advancement by simple heredity. Finch also falls for Rosemary, a secretary at the company.
