This is the story of the life of a singer and the traumas she goes through. Taraji P. Henson plays the lead character of April. She is a singer who has an alcohol problem. Across town, Madea (played by Tyler Perry) catches Bryon (played by Freddy Siglar), Jennifer (played by Hope Olaidč Wilson) and Manny (played by Kwesi Boakye) trying to rob the house. Instead of calling the police, Madea gives them food. The kids do not have anywhere to stay because their grandmother disappeared and their Aunt April does not want them. April lives with her criminal boyfriend, Randy (played by Brian White), who also has a wife and kids. Madea brings Bryon, Jennifer, and Manny to Randy's house but he does not want them.

The local reverend named Brian (played by Marvin Williams) asks April to give an illegal alien Sandino (played by Adam Rodríguez) some work. April agrees but does not trust him at first. Sandino cleans up nicely and looks more handsome. April's mother dies. April tries to get Randy to comfort her but he is too tired so he pushes her away. Sandino makes April feel better by hugging her. Sandino and April fall in love. Jennifer does not like this and Randy gets so jealous that he wants to kill Sandino. Randy attempts to rape Jennifer but is stopped by Sandino. They throw Randy out of the house.
April thinks she should have been able to prevent this, so she goes to the bar to get drunk. Sandino tries to calm her down, but she will have none of it. She thinks Sandino is a molester of children because he is too nice to the kids. However, Sandino tells her, this is how he tries to make the young kids feel loved, since he never had this himself as a child. Sandino leaves. Jennifer convinces April that Sandino is a good man. They convince Sandino to return. Sandino marries April after they decide they are meant for each other.
Best part of story, including ending:
I like this story because the lowest one, Sandino, becomes the strongest one by the end.
Best scene in story:
I like the scene when Father Brian convinces April to take in Sandino because it sets up the rest of the movie.
Opinion about the main character:
April does not know exactly what she wants, but by the end of the movie she has figured it out. We are happy to see this.
