Casey Carlyle (Michelle Trachtenberg) is a highly intelligent seventeen year old who has been on the college track for Harvard Univeristy ever since she can remember. Raised by single mom Joan (Joan Cusak), Casey is the epitome of responsibility and academic excellence. When Casey decides to apply the principles of skating to her physics project, she gets permission to act as an observer at the skating rink. In order to hand in a precise report Casey determines that she must use herself as a human guinea pig in her experiment. Casey begins to take skating lessons at the rink and using the scientific principles of physics, she manages to land a triple jump. Tina Harwood (Kim Cattrall), a former skating Champion, and mother of Gen Harwood, a talented young skater and classmate of Casey, sees raw, untapped potential in Casey and decides to train her. Suddenly, Casey's world is opened up to a host of new possibilities. She begins hanging out with Gen, Nikki and Tiffany, three elite skaters. She also meet's Gen's brother Teddy (Trevor Blumas) who works the Zamboni at the rink. As Casey is exposed to the rough and tumble world of skating she is forced to make major decisions about her future. Her mother is adamantly opposed to the skating world which she views as frivolous. Will Casey have the courage to live out her dreams?
