Miles Massey is the ultimate divorce attorney. He has never fallen in love with any of his female costumers. That is until he meets Marilyn, the wive of one of his customers, Rex Rexroth. He starts to seduce her, but she resists. As they recite poems to each other, they grow closer. That is until one day, Marilyn gets married to an oil millionair called Howard. Miles Massey (Clooney) is a top divorce lawyer who has grown tired of the game; Marylin Rexroth (Zeta-Jones) is the complainant in Massey's latest case when a private investigator has caught her husband Rex (Herrmann) red-handed on video with an empty-headed, jiggly blonde. Improbably, Massey wins the case and Marylin gets nothing! Even more improbably, Marylin announces she's marrying oil magnate Howard Doyle (Thornton) and wants to sign the ironclad "Massey Prenup" to prove it's love. It doesn't hurt that she's heart-stoppingly gorgeous and smart-mouthed, but Massey is fascinated, captivated, and intrigued. A hit man is hired, there's a timely heart attack, and Massey finally meets his match -- in more ways than one. Although the legal plot angles are impossible, this movie is exuberantly filmed and acted, especially by Clooney, who does a marvelous Cary Grant in high gear to match the Gable he did in the Coens' "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?"
