A bartender tries out for the Philadelphia Eagles and gets accepted. Vince Papale is a big Philadelphia Eagles fan and upon the urging of his friends at the bar where he works, tries out for the team when it gets a new coach, Dick Vermeil. Vince hasn't really amounted to much, having a failed marriage and is now a bartender, so he tries out without much expectation. However, his talent and speed gets him noticed. Regardless of him being the second choice between two finalists, Vermeil still picks Papale to join the team, impressed with his determination. His acceptance to the team sparks more fanfare for the team and the sport, and after a rough start, he soon starts winning games. In a climax game against the Giants, he anticipates a move, and responds by running full sprint to score a touchdown. From being an unknown rookie, he becomes a major player of the team up until his retirement.
