Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) is a technology prodigy and billionaire. He owns Stark Industries, however it is run by Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges). On a weapons demo in Afghanistan, Tony's convoy is attacked and he is taken hostage by militants. With a new lease on life, Tony announces that he will discontinue Stark Industries' weapons contracts, seeing the damage its done. Tony then works on a new Iron suit, he completes it and flies to Afghanistan to destroy remaining Stark weapons, a battle ensues and Tony is successful. The militants are able to scavenge some parts of Tony's suit to recreate it. Obadiah meets with the militants, and is revealed as the mastermind behind Tony's abduction. He steals the suit and after tweaking it, wears it himself. Iron Man and Obadiah fight to the death outside Stark Industries, and Iron Man disables Obadiah by setting of a magnetic pulse that renders him weak. Tony faces the media and announces he's Iron Man.
