In a small town of the south western border, a group of Mexican born peasants, led by Luis Chama, try to obtain from the local court the acknowledgement of their rights over their land. But soon, disillusioned, they choose to become outlaws and to fight for their rights.

Frank Harlan, who's just bought 600,000 acres of the land nearby, arrives in town with his hitmen and hires Joe Kidd in order to find Luis Chama and kill him. After a few days of man hunting, Joe Kidd understands what kind of man is Harlan and chooses to help Chama to surrender to the legal authorities.
