Barney and his friend Orville are a frustrated aspiring songwriter duo living in the small town of Climax, Nevada. When famous singer Dino stops by their local gas station they trick him into making an extended stay in Barney's second bedroom. They intend to try to sell him one of their songs.

Barney and Orville try to keep Dino, a notorious womanizer, by using Barney's wife as bait. But because Barney is a jealous husband, he sends his real wife to stay with her mother and hires a prosititute named Polly to play his wife. But Polly turns out to be the classic "hooker with a heart of gold" and this turns the whole situation upside down.
