Jessica Stein (Westfeldt) is a single, straight, successful and somewhat neurotic journalist, part of a close knit Jewish family who is tired of the dating scene and especially of meeting men who are wrong for her. She is tired of getting her heart broken time and time again so she decides to try something new. She answers a personal ad in the "seeking women" section and ends up meeting Helen Cooper (Juergensen). The two women begin a friendship which ultimately leads to a romantic relationship. Despite her affection for Helen, Jessica is not completely sure that the lesbian lifestyle is for her.

Jessica Stein, an attractive but neurotic blonde Jewish girl from Scarsdale who works at a downtown Manhattan newspaper but paints in her spare time, has hit 28 and can't seem to find a good man. So she decides to try going out with a woman. Helen Cooper, the feisty, street smart, and lusty assistant director of an art gallery, is trying her first relationship with a woman, too. Stars Westfeldt (who looks a lot like Lisa Kudrow) and Juergensen wrote the script for this delightful New York romantic comedy, which neatly sidesteps most cliches and easy farce. There are no real villains in this lovely movie, but a lot of sweet embarrassments and laughs. Totally charming.
