Fletcher Reede (Carrey) is a professional liar and a professional lawyer. When he is late for his son's 5th birthday party after promising he'd be there, his son's wish is that his dad can stop lying just for 24 hours. When Max's wish comes true, Fletcher discovers that the things that actually come out of his mouth are horrible. He tries to keep his ex-wife from moving to Boston and be involved more in Max's life.

Jim Carrey plays Fletcher, a lawyer whose son, Max, is disappointed on his birthday when Fletcher doesn't turn up, though he promised he would. He wishes that just for one day his Dad could only tell the truth, and miraculously this comes true. His dad finds the next day at work extremely embarrasing and difficult where he forced to tell the truth to his clients, his mother, and a woman he wakes up with. However, Fletcher faces a bigger battle at the end when he has to stop his ex-wife taking his son to Boston.

In this really funny comedy, Jim Carrey plays Fletcher Reede, a lawyer who can't stop lying. After his son becomes fed up of his constant lying, he wishes for him to not lie for one day. The wish comes true, hence Fletcher can't tell or even write a lie. With a big divorce case coming up, where he must lie, he tries very hard to win it by telling the truth. What is a lawyer to do? Usually, I hate Jim Carrey, but he is incredibly funny here. His constant face-making, and truthful words will make giggle. The writers, and director, Tom Shadyac have great fun keeping up with Carrey.

When the son of a Boston lawyer makes a wish on his birthday that his father won't tell a lie for 24 hours, things begin to get crazy. The lawyer (the always-wacky Jim Carrey) almost cracks under pressure at times, but he succeeds. He also convinces his ex-wife to let him stay with their son, since she's leaving for California anyway.

Jim Carey plays a lawyer who never has time for his son, Max. So on Max's birthday, Max wishes that his father could never tell a lie. And it comes true.
