There are two main stories in this movie. The first one is about the dream of Count Forbek who, on the verge of WWI, builds a fantastic castle in the forest. A few years later, deceived by the tragic events that happened in Europe, he gathers together his friends in the castle and drugs them with a mysterious concoction that should erase their memories and make them start a new life with only the Good in mind.
The second story is set, in the eighties and in the same castle, during a symposium of professors who must examine new forms of education for the children. Sabine Azéma will fall in love with the architect Vittorio Gassman while violent discussions between professors are shaking the walls of the castle.
