That is, of course until Chris' best friend Clarence (Sean Astin) gets his hands on a potion discovered in the desert by his uncle that has the power to switch the identities of the person who drank it, and the first person they look at.
Jack is so caught up in his chance to become the medical superintendent in his clinic, he has no understanding of what goes through his son's head.
The potion is accidentally consumed by Jack, and he and his son get the opportunity to see what it is really like in the other person's shoes.
Jack has to go back to high school and Chris has to go to the clinic while Clarence tries to get the antidote from his uncle that would switch the two back to normal.
While not at work or school, Chris gets to feel firsthand what it is like to have a credit card, a Jaguar and to go to bars, while Jack has to hide from the school bully.
