Three high school friends from LA -- Woody, Dave, and Spider -- have planned an overnight trip to Tijuana, with a pact to lose their virginity there before the night is through. A fourth friend backed out, so they have to settle for a freshman, Wendell (known as "the wimp") to share the trip and expenses. On the way down the road, they shoplift a bunch of supplies from a grocery store where the owner and his wife are having a marriage-ending fight. Kathy hitches a ride with the boys to get a quickie divorce in Tijuana. From there, the five Americans have a variety of adventures south of the border, from a visit to a bordello to trouble with the local sheriff. This so-so 1983 teen movie was an early project for Cruise (his fourth feature), Long (already with a year of "Cheers" under her belt), and director Curtis Hanson, who much later would shoot "L.A. Confidential" and "Wonder Boys."
