Woody Allen and Diane Keaton have just met their floor neighbours, Mr and Mrs House, when Mrs House dies of an heart attack the next day. Soon Diane Keaton gets obsessed with the idea that Mr House killed her wife and will benefit from her death in some way. Alan Alda, a friend of the couple, helps her in her quest. As Diane Keaton has the opportunity to enter alone Mr House's apartment, she discovers that her neighbour has the project to leave New-York for Europe.
