Mini (Nikki Reed) is a sexy, self-assured teenager who relishes life's risky first time experiences. Mini is willing to try anything once … just so she cross the item off her mental list. Mini lives with her promiscuous, drug-addicted, alcoholic mother, Diane (Carrie-Anne Moss, “The Matrix”) and her oblivious, wealthy stepfather, Martin (Alec Baldwin). Diane has no qualms about hiring a male stripper for Nikki's birthday, sleeping with Mike Rudell (Jeff Goldblum), the lewd television producer next door, telling her daughter she has fat thighs or bringing strange men home that pass out in Nikki's bed. Martin, a workaholic who is hardy ever home, is strictly the “sugar daddy” - “Someone has to pay the bills for your BMW”, he tells Nikki.

Nikki decides to engage upon another new “first” - working with an escort service. After her first customer turns out to have a conscience, Nikki tells the service she only wants to deal with unscrupulous men. She is soon shocked but amused when her amoral client turns out to be … her stepfather, Martin! Disguising her voice and requesting that unsuspecting Martin turn off all the lights, Nikki is able to get her stepfather into bed. When Nikki reveals herself at the end of the evening, Martin is disgusted … but only mildly as they become inseparable, sleeping with one another under Diane‘s nose.
With another first time experience out of the way, Nikki sets her sights on trying to get rid of Diane. After she steals an array of drugs from the school nurse, Nikki adds the crushed pills to her Diane's numerous drinks. Unruly Diane soon goes crazy, picking ridiculous fights at home and in public and becoming an embarrassing joke. Depressed and despondent, Diane begins drinking and drugging heavier than before.
When Nikki and Martin return home one evening, they discover that Diane is has passed out from an overdose. Nikki decides to speed the process along by throwing Diane into a running car in a closed garage. When unrelenting Detective Garson (Luke Wilson) arrives, something seems downright fishy to him.
