Dr. Mirakle is actually presenting his ape Erik at the Paris carnaval. At nights, he works in his secret laboratory in order to prove ape-human kinship. To do so, he kidnaps young women and injects them the blood of Erik. Until now, three of them have already died. One night, Erik notices Camille L'Espanaye in the crowd and asks for her hat. Camille's fiancé, Pierre Dupin, is a medicine student who will discover, after having examined the corpses of the dead women at the morgue, that someone has injected in their bodies the blood of an animal. Meanwhile, Dr. Mirakle wants to convince Camille to see Erik again.
