Stephanie hears her cousin Vinnie (played by Patrick Fischler) is looking for a filing clerk. Vinnie has a bail-bonds company. She goes there to ask for a job. She is told the filing clerk job was a two-day temporary position which already has been done. She begs her cousin to let her do anything because she needs the money. One of Vinnie's skip-tracers (bounty-hunters) is out sick. Vinnie decides to let Stephanie works his files. She is told she will get 10% of the bail-bond amount if she brings someone in, who has missed their court date putting the full bond at risk.
While looking through the files, Stephanie notices the file of Joe Morelli (played by Jason O'Mara) who is an ex-boyfriend of hers. Joe is the first guy she ever had sex with, who immediately dumped her right afterwards. Vinnie tries to dissuade her from going after Joe, telling her he is a cop who murdered someone, therefore way too dangerous for her to go after. But the bail on him is $500,000 so her commission for bringing him in would be $50,000. Despite Vinnie's protests she goes after him.
She stakes out Joe's house and soon sees his friend drive up. She follows the friend after he leaves which leads her directly to Joe's hideout. She enters to confront him. He laughs in her face, easily escaping her by taking her car keys from her, throwing them in a dumpster, and driving away. Stephanie goes back to the bail bonds office, tells the secretary what happened. The secretary suggests she use professional help, if she insists on going after Joe. She gives her the name and telephone number of Ranger ( played by Daniel Sunjata). Stephanie meets with Ranger. She convinces him to help her find Joe. He agrees as long as she will be trained by him first. He buys her a gun, then teaches her how to use it.
As Stephanie goes after Joe, she learns the case against Joe is not based on solid evidence. Joe knows, as a cop, he will not survive in prison. Even Joe's mother refuses to help Stephanie find Joe, in spite of the fact the mother posted her house as security for the bail bond and she will lose her house if he does not come in. When Stephanie finally catches Joe, their romance starts up again.
Best part of story, including ending:
It is fun to see a female in an action movie like this.
Best scene in story:
It's a funny scene, when Stephanie returns to the bail bonds office after retrieving her car keys from the dumpster, when the secretary asks her to move away a few feet due to the bad smell.
Opinion about the main character:
I like Stephanie's determination to catch Joe because she believes in herself even when nobody else does.
