This is a romantic comedy about a clash between African-American and Mexican-American cultures. Lance Gross plays the character of Marcus Boyd who is in love with Lucia (played by America Ferrera). Marcus studied to be a doctor at Columbia University. Marcus lived with his girlfriend Lucia for quite some time but neither Marcus nor Lucia have told their respective parents about their relationship. After Marcus graduates from medical school the plan is for Lucia and Marcus to go together as volunteers for “Doctors Without Borders” to serve the poor people in Laos. They decide it is time to get married before they go and they want their families to participate in the wedding.

Unbeknownst to the young lovers their fathers, who both live in Los Angeles, have just met but under very bad circumstances. Lucia's father Miguel (played by Carlos Mencia) drives a tow truck. As part of his job he tows away the car of Marcus's dad. They have a big fight and curse each other out in the process. When their children arrive later that evening and introduce one father to the other one, that is when they suddenly have to deal with each other on different terms. It then becomes a funny competition about who can make the wedding more Black or more Mexican and which culture is better.
The families get into a big fight. Lucia and Marcus get swept up into the argument and their love gets lost temporarily due to all the fighting. Finally with the help of her sister Isabel (played by Anjelah Johnson) Lucia is able to convince Marcus and the rest of the family of the sincerity of their love which goes beyond race and money worries. After everyone finally calms down they have a wonderful wedding that has all the best of both black and Mexican-American customs. After that Isabel has the last laugh because she gets engaged to marry an Asian guy.
Best part of story, including ending:
It is funny to see minority cultures clash with each other because it is easy to see how silly the differences seem to be, when in reality there are many similarities between them, like love of family.
Best scene in story:
I like the scene when the two fathers first meet while the car of one is being towed away by the other. The exchange of insults is hilarious.
Opinion about the main character:
Marcus is a really good man with a big heart and we are very happy to see he gets his love Lucia in the end.
