Christine, a chorus girl at the Opera Populaire is coached anonymously by a man only known as the Phantom, who, unbeknownst to her in the beginning, employs deadly tactics in order to ensure her success as the lead suprano, much to the dismay of Carlotta, the reigning Diva.

While she is drawn to the masked Phantom, a romance between herself and Raoul, the house Patron and Christine's childhood sweetheart begins to bloom. Enraged, the Phantom writes an opera that the owners, Andre and Firmin decide to have performed, with Christine in the lead as a ploy to lure the Phantom out from deep beneath the opera house which had been his home since childhood.
After what is under the mask is revealed, the Phantom makes a hasty retreat, with Christine in tow, back to his underground lair. When Raoul arrives in an attempt to save her, the Phantom makes her choose between spending the rest of her life with him, or sending Rayoul "to his grave".

Andrew Lloyd Webber's famous musical comes to the screen in this film adaptation.
Deformed since birth, a bitter man known only as the Phantom (Gerard Butler)lives on an underground lake underneath the Paris Opera House. He falls in love with the obscure chorus singer Christine Daae (Emmy Rossum), and privately tutors her in singing.
Meanwhile, the Phantom goes about terrorizing the opera house and demanding Christine be given lead roles. Things get worse when Christine and the opera houses new patron, her childhood love Raoul (Patrick Wilson) fall in love.
The Phantom, angered by this, writes an opera and forces Christine to tkae the lead role. It is during this opera that the Pantom kidnaps her and imprisons her with him in his lair, causing the massive chandelier to crash and set the opera house abalaze.
With the opera house buring down arounf him, Raoul races beneath the opera house to save Christine in one last confrontaion with the Phantom.
