Following the events of the previous installments, the nefarious British sea trader Lord Beckett, with the King of England's permission, has joined forces with the ghostly evil creature Davy Jones to murder any pirates located on the seven seas. Will and Elizabeth Turner, our romantic pirate couple leads, along with their former adversary Captain Barbossa and a mysterious Caribbean pirate woman named Tia Dalma, head off toward the world's end in hopes of rescuing their leader and captain, Jack Sparrow, from Davy Jones' Locker. After they find Sparrow, inexplicably alive and in fine condition, they try to learn how to stop Davy Jones. Davy Jones allegedly was deemed the ferryman between the living and dead worlds by the sea goddess Calypso, with whom he was deeply in love. However, when she failed to meet him during one of his rare days allowed on land, he turned evil and betrayed her to a council able to trap her in human form. Along their travels, Elizabeth is captured by Davy Jones, who believes she may be the human form of Calypso. While imprisoned, she meets Bill, Will's father, who tells her the only way to kill Davy Jones is to stab him in the heart. When Elizabeth is rescued, and it is revealed that Tia Dalma is in fact Calypso, a showdown begins between Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones, all while their boats are thrashed about by the ill weather caused by Calypso's wrath.

Best part of story, including ending:
It lacks the light comedic touch that made the first two films so enjoyable. It's far too long, and a bit of a self-serious slog considering it should be a pirate adventure.
Best scene in story:
Jack Sparrow's hallucinatory experiences in Davy Jones' Locker are visually pretty brilliant, and they're by far and away the funniest and most creative part of the film.
Opinion about the main character:
Sparrow isn't given nearly enough of an emotional arc this time around, whereas in the first two films we could easily track his hero's journey.
