Maggie Hayward, a young heroin addict, shoots a policeman and is sentenced to death. After her execution, she wakes up in a secret governmental training camp. Maggie is told that she's given a second chance in order to pay her debt to the society. If she doesn't want to make the effort to cooperate, she will simply be eliminated. She agrees and is trained in all kinds of areas for several months.
Now, Maggie has become Nina, a first-rate killer, who tries to live a normal life between two missions. She falls for J.P. and is discreetly supervised by her mentor Gabriel Byrne. After her last job in New-Orleans, when she had to kill a VIP from the bathroom of her suite, while J.P. was proposing to her behind the door, Nina asks Gabriel Byrne to help her convince his hierarchy to accept her resignation. She has changed and she wants to enjoy life like a normal person.

Maggie (Fonda) does not fit in with normal society. She's been convicted of murder and faces the death penalty. A government agency steps in and decides to give her a second chance, as an lethal assasin. Her choice is clear; learn to kill on command or die as the courts have declared.
