This is a story about a young man who was born as his mother died, having been struck by lightening. He is born albino, and is rejected by his father on first sight. He actually remembers being in the womb, and his father's rejection. He lives with his grandparents, spending most daylight hours in the cellar with many books, for the sun hurts his eyes. He has memorized every word, on every page, of every book. When his grandfather dies, he is found and taken to a boys' home, where he is ridiculed for his appearance by the other boys. While in school, in town, he meets a young girl who treats him as normal, and not as a "freak." The sheriff helps him with things, as well as the woman who runs the boys' home and a teacher at the school.

It is discovered that he is very sensitive, extremely electric (basically made of electricity), which is why his entire body is hairless. He can also touch something and transmit its feelings to someone else. He does this with a dying deer, causing it's shooter to feel its death as though he were experiencing it himself. His IQ cannot be recorded for it is too high to chart. He is very sad at being treated so badly by the "normal" people, and wants only to go back to the farmhouse.
