Upon arriving in Africa, they are met at the airport by the local official Harry (played by Dumisani Mbebe). They take a boat to look for the crocodile. It is thought to be about 30 feet long and has killed hundreds of people according to the locals. They must travel to an area controlled by “Little Gustave.” Little Gustave is a warlord who controls the land area where the crocodile lives. He got his name from the crocodile. The boat comes under attack at night from armed men on the shore. The boat returns fire with a machine gun. The next day they come to a small village on the river. They have a dog on a small raft in the water, tied in place for the crocodile. The crocodile eats a child swimming in the water. They meet a local man named Jacob (played by Jurgen Prochnow) who is to guide them to the crocodile. The crocodile hunter Matt Collins plans to capture the crocodile alive. They take a big metal cage and go by convoy to northern Burundi. They are welcomed by the villagers. Aviva takes the dog from the raft in the water and adopts it. They enjoy a meal and sing with the villagers. They visit a shaman (played by Ernest Ndhlovu). He warns them, they will find the crocodile but many will die.

The villagers help them carry the cage to where the crocodile was last seen. They pass through Hutu territory. They put the cage near the water and tie a goat inside as bait. Jojo tells Steven he wants to go to America. At night, they see the crocodile approach the cage, but it does not enter. Matt shoots it with dart containing a tracking device. In the morning the goat is gone. While filming animals, Steven sees some Hutu soldiers with the shaman and his family. They cut the shaman's head off and shoot the others. Steven gets it all on video. The warlord is informed of the existence of the video footage by his spy who is one of the soldiers supposedly guarding the Americans.

The next night Jojo gets in the cage to attract the crocodile. He falls by accident, triggering the trap. The crocodile attacks the cage from the outside, pushing it and Jojo into the water. Tim goes into the water to rescue Jojo. They revive him. Jojo runs away. Back at the camp, Aviva catches a soldier stealing money from her tent. He then tries to rape her. The crocodile kills the man. Aviva escapes. The one remaining soldier shoots Jacob and takes them all hostage. The soldier lines them up on the water's edge to kill them. Jojo shoots the soldier before he can shoot them. Jacob is badly injured but still alive. He tells the others the crocodile killed his wife, while she was bathing in the river. Aviva calls for an airlift rescue using the satellite phone. The crocodile attacks them. Jacob is taken by the crocodile with a grenade in his hand. There is a huge explosion, but the crocodile survives.
The next morning the helicopter arrives to rescue them. Hutu soldiers arrive and shoot at the helicopter. It flies away. Matt is killed by the soldiers. The soldiers attack the rest of them with RPGs and chase them down with AK-47s using a Range Rover. They all run to scatter in different directions. Jojo fires on the soldiers. Jojo is shot in the arm. The soldier crashes into a tree near the water. Tim saves Jojo from the soldier. Tim and the soldier fight. Aviva kills the soldier with the last bullet in the gun. Steven is lost in the marshlands with only his camera. The crocodile sees him. It chases him. It gets stuck in some trees allowing time for Steven to run away. It breaks free, then gives chase again. Steven is running away as fast as he can run, but the crocodile gains on him. Tim finds Steven's camera, where he abandoned it. Tim returns to Aviva and Jojo. They are rescued by Harry, but Harry has the shaman's necklace hanging from the mirror in his car. Harry is the warlord called Little Gustave. Harry wants the video of his murder of the shaman. Tim tells him the computer, with the video footage, can be located by the transmitter.   He also tells him the crocodile is dead, shot by the soldiers. They go in a small raft to look for the transmitter. They force Tim to go forward to find the transmitter in the water. Tim finds the transmitter in a pile of dead bodies. Steven is dead there also. Tim finds a knife, stabs the soldier guarding him. Aviva throws the crocodile bait on Harry. Harry shots Tim in the leg. The crocodile attacks, going after Harry from the smell of the bait. It quickly kills him. Tim and Aviva escape with the raft. The little dog Wiley is there. Aviva saves it. The crocodile attacks the car. Tim fights it off. They escape. Jojo, the little dog, Tim, and Aviva fly to America. The civil war in Burundi ends. The crocodile still lives on.
Best part of story, including ending: As monsters go, this crocodile is pretty scary and the special effects are quite good.

Best scene in story: I like the scene when the soldier is attempting to rape Aviva and he is eaten by the crocodile instead. He gets what he deserves.

Opinion about the main character: Tim is a very jaded, cynical guy at the beginning, but finds his courage and empathy to save Jojo and Aviva in the end.
