Pure Danger stars C. Thomas Howell as Johnnie Dean, a short order cook out on parol and down on his luck. When a deal for diamonds goes bad between Freethrow (Marcus Chong) and the Mafia, a shootout ensues and Frethrow takes off with the diamonds. Wounded, he ends up at Johnnie's diner where there hardly ever customers. Before dying, he is able to call the boss of his gang and let him know the deal went bad but he has the diamonds. Johnnie, desperate to not be stuck as a short order cook for the rest of his life, takes the diamonds with Becky (Teri Ann Linn) and heads out to L.A. with the Mafia and the black gangsters after him. Once there, Johnie tries to get the help of his buddy Dice (Rick Shapiro) to set up a deal to sell the diamonds. But this goes sour as well and they barely get out alive as another shootout happens between the Mafia and gangsters. Johnie and Becky get the wounded Dice back to his girlfriends apt where he dies. They decide to hide the diamonds on Dice's dead body. After another shootout/chase, Johnie and Becky end up at a diner where they both die. The waitress and cook find the diamonds and take off with the gangsters only minute behind.
