    Eliza Doolittle is a poor flower girl in London. As the movie begins Eliza is approaching a group of people who are waiting for a taxi. As one of the group runs for a taxi he knocks the flowers out of Eliza's hands. As Eliza picks up the flowers she starts to speak to the group. A man in the group notices that another man is taking down everything Eliza says. At first everyone thinks the man is a policeman then it is revealed that he is Professor Henry Higgins a celebrated Professor of Phonetics. Another man in the group reveals himself to be Colonel Pickering, another noted Phonetics expert.

    The next day Professor Higgins and Col. Pickering are together when Eliza visits Professor Higgins's house. Eliza asks Professor Higgins to give her English lessons so that she can get a job as a saleslady in a flower shop. Colonel Pickering makes a bet with Professor Higgins. He will declare Professor Higgins the greatest teacher ever if he can pass Eliza off as a lady at the Ambassador's ball which will be held in six months.
