Aliens visit earth to see if it is suitable for invasion to seek refuge from their dying planet. Dwayne Johnson plays the lead character of Jack Bruno. He is a reformed gangster who drives a taxi. Outside Las Vegas, an alien craft crashes in the desert. The U.S. military captures the ship and looks for the occupants. The team leader of the search is Henry Burke (played by Ciarán Hinds). Dr. Friedman (played by Carla Gugino), is in town for UFO convention to expose what the government is doing. Two kids, Seth (played by Alexander Ludwig) and Sara (played by AnnaSophia Robb) get in Bruno's taxi and want to pay him fifteen thousand dollars to drive them out to a special location which is very odd. Burke has the kids under surveillance and they follow the taxi. Bruno thinks the mob is after him so he evades them. Seth uses his special powers to help them escape.

Bruno takes them to a house that is in disrepair. He follows the kids inside. They get a piece of equipment from a laboratory that is under the house. They fight off the alien guard named Siphon (played by Tom Woodruff, Jr.) who blasts them. They get back into the taxi to run away. They are chased by Siphon in his space ship, until his ship crashes. Burke's men almost capture them but they escape because Sara uses her special powers. Bruno takes them to Dr. Friedman to figure out what is going on. Seth and Sara explain that they are extraterrestrials from a planet that is dying. They came to earth to figure out how to save their planet without invading the Earth, but the others from their planet want to invade the Earth. There is an assassin sent to kill them. They need to get back to their spaceship to return home to explain their plans so the Earth is not invaded. Their spaceship has been taken to Witch Mountain so they go there to retrieve it.
Once they get to Witch Mountain they are captured by Burke and his men. Burke wants to dissect them to learn more about alien biology. The Siphon changes Burke's plans when it causes a diversion allowing Dr. Friedman and Bruno the opportunity to find Sara and Seth to help them escape. Sara and Seth take their ship back towards their home planet, killing the assassin that is on board. Before they leave they give, to Dr. Friedman and Bruno, equipment that will always allow them to find them again. Bruno and Dr. Friedman get famous writing a book about their experiences. This makes Burke's men leave them alone. After awhile the equipment signals that Sara and Seth have returned to Earth.

I like that the aliens appear like human teenagers because this makes the story more interesting.

I like the scene where Sara uses her special powers to help them escape because it is surprising that she has these skills.
Opinion about the main character:
Bruno is a guy that seems to always be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but in this story he is key to helping save the Earth so that is very good.
