H.I., after a few stays in the penitentiaries, asks Ed, a policewoman, to marry him. A few months later, Ed, obsessed with the idea of bearing a child, suffers from a nervous breakdown when she learns that she can't have one.

The couple decides to kidnap a child. But happiness won't last long for H.I., Ed and Nathan Jr. as two escaped convicts ask H.I. for shelter and as the mean bounty hunter Leonard Smalls is tracking them.
