Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Reno 911: Miami

After a biochemical attack takes out nearly every police officer in Miami, it's up to the hapless visiting cops from Reno to maintain order. The Reno police force, led by Lieutenant Jim Dangle, dreams of being considered an elite force in the country. However, they can't help but make constant mistakes, showcased in the opening, when one of their cops, Junior, falls asleep while driving his cop car and gets into a huge accident. Hope seems to be on the horizon, though: Dangle discovers they've been invited to the American Police Convention in Miami Beach, Florida, and the force gets excited for what they see as a vacation. However, upon arriving in Florida, they find they aren't on the list after all. This leads to a heavy night of drinking by the entire unit, and they each try individually to seduce each other, all of them failing, leading to lonely nights of sleep and wicked hangovers the next day. They go back to the convention late the next morning, to see if they will finally be allowed in.... only to discover the convention was the victim of a terrorist attack, and nearly every city official and police officer is inside, infected by a potentially deadly biochemical. Only one official was outside: the deputy mayor, Jeff Spoder, who asks the Reno squad to take over and become Miami's police force until the antidote is found. They have to deal with a bunch of uniquely Floridian problems, including a beached whale (which they blow up) and an alligator in a pool (which ends up eating a dumb neighbor who gets too close). Two officers, Jones and Garcia, are kidnapped multiple times by Ethan, a drug lord, but they figure out that Ethan is merely a pawn working for Spoder, who attacked the Miami police force in hopes of becoming a drug kingpin while they're away. Spoder kills Ethan and tries to run off with the antidote to the biochemical attack, but Dangle brings him down and arrests him, bringing him to justice-- that is, until the Reno cops accidentally shoot a missile into the police car containing Spoder, causing him to explode. The Reno cops are all highly praised, and Dangle is promoted to his dream job: the sheriff of the Aspen Police. The Reno cops prepare for life without Dangle... only to find Dangle returns shortly after, when he learns that Aspen won't permit a gay sheriff. The film ends with a tease for a potential sequel in London.

Best part of story, including ending: This is an absolutely hilarious film, totally inappropriate, with phenomenal characters and comic set pieces throughout.

Best scene in story: The drunken night in which they all try to seduce one another ends with one long shot, scanning from room to room, witnessing their pathetic self-gratification in action.

Opinion about the main character: Lieutenant Dangle seems like he could be a good cop if by himself, but he's saddled with such loser cops by his side that he can't help but be frustrated. I like his determination and his dreams.
