Glorious, musical, reverent biopic of George Gershwin. A young musical genius, bored with the crap he has to play for a music publisher, has dreams of creating new music, realizing what he hears in his head. His passion guides him to produce new forms of American music, pop songs, concert pieces based on Jazz and Blues forms, even an opera. He is obsessed with his work, alienating two lovers, and driving himself relentlessly until he dies at a young age. Includes full performances or lengthy excerpts of "Rhapsody in Blue," "An American in Paris," "Porgy and Bess," "Swannee," and more. Certain perconalities, including, Al Jolson, Paul Whiteman, Oscar Levant, and George White, play themselves.
