Richard III (1995) Movie Review Summary

Actors: Ian McKellan, Annette Bening, Jim Broadbent, Robert Downey Jr., Kristin Scott Thomas, Nigel Hawthorne

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Richard III (1995)

This movie takes Shakespeare's Richard III and transplants it to a slightly alternate England in the 1930s and 40s, where a fascist regime is in power. Rather than being a king, Richard is a dictator and usurper of power. It's amazing how well the original Shakespeare is woven into the new setting - McKellan is the cruel, cold, oily deceiver and murderer, killing those in his family who stand in the way, seducing women without a thought, and ultimately meeting his demise.
