Rob Roy (Liam Neeson) has to borrow money from the Marquis of Montrose to provide for his clan but things go awry when the messenger with the money is killed and the money is stolen by Montrose's bitter ward (Tim Roth). Rob, now indebted to the Marquis, has to battle for his life and the welfare of his family to prove that he has not taken the money. When his family is harmed he seeks to revenge the damage and restore his honor by challenging Tim Roth, a master swordsman, to a duel.
