Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Rot und blau (Red and Blue)

Barbara is a successful middle aged architect in Berlin. Although she has a few regrets and drinks a little, she is a good wife and mother, has terrific friends, and enjoys her work. Then one day she gets a phone call from Ilke, the 20-something daughter she had by a Turkish boyfriend -- a highly successful carpet dealer she hasn't seen in 20 years. The girl, whose father has died, has come to Berlin looking for her mother and employs a private detective with some secrets of his own to find her. This charming, somewhat aimless 2003 German movie by Rudolf Thome, resembles "Secrets and Lies" in some respects but is less intense and amiably inclined to leave a lot of loose ends. For example, gangsters after the huge amount of cash Ilke is carrying (her father's legacy) intrude, but are never identified and are left to slide. Mostly, the story focuses on the delicate formation of a mother-daughter bond.
