Frank (Richard Roxburgh) is a veteran cave explorer and diver who is on an ongoing exploration of a massive cave system in Papua New Guinea with his son, Josh. The two are on bad terms since Josh only feels obligated to work for his dad. The project is funded by a rich adventurer Carl (Ioan Gruffudd), who visits the site with his girlfriend. As the team goes further into the system, a typhoon is getting strong aboveground, and soon the team is trapped in the flooded caverns. Since the original entry has been destroyed, Frank has no choice but to look for an alternate exit, a portal that should lead out into the ocean. As they go deeper into the tunnels, Frank and Josh set aside their differences for survival. They battle nature and learn about the treacherous human instinct to survive.
