The Seven Samurai is a film - a superrealistic film - about seven samurai agreeing to help a village of farmers prevent bandits from taking their crops. What's more, the samurai agree to do this for free, with no pay or prospects. The film documents the farmers wicked ways of getting good, honest samurai to defend them from the bandits, whilst pretending to be very poor so as to not have to give the samurai anything....the farmers greed. The film touches on the samurai training the farmers in order to fight the bandits and in the end the farmers wicked ways cost four good samurai their lives and in the end, the farmers win by doing nothing, ruining the samurai, especially the expert swordsman Kyuzo, whose character is the best....stoic, ascetic, one with all and what's more, very skilled at his job. Although the film has a good ending, it actually ends horribly-the deaths of so many good warriors at the expence of the farmers greed and delusion and selfishness. Yet after all the way of the warrior - bushido - is death. On a final note, this is the best film of all time and it highlights so many things that you actually become addicted to watching it and everytime notice something new. A must see.
