Lucía (Paz Vega) is a restaurant employee whose live-in boyfriend Lorenzo (Tristán Ulloa) is severely depressed. She gets a call, slams the telephone down thinking him dead, and leaves to an island that has achieved mythical proportions in the fiction he writes and in her own life through his secretive references to events prior to their meeting. Through a series of flashbacks, the viewer and Lucía reconstruct how the couple fell deeply in love and try to dissect truth from Lorenzo's fiction. Also shown are intersecting stories of Elena (Najwa Nimri), a Valencian refugee from personal sorrow, Carlos (Daniel Freire), a handsome and enigmatic recreational diver, and Belén (Elena Anaya), a naughty nanny.
