Gary "Gal" Dove (Winstone) is a retired caperman taking it easy in sunny Spain with his beloved ex-porn star wife and a few friends. Former criminal associate Don Logan (Kingsley) bursts in from England and the past to demand that Gal do "one last job," and won't take no for an answer. Don uses threats, violence, the spilling of secrets -- anything to get Gal to do the caper. Winstone, who looks like a softer, rounder Russell Crowe, is pleasant and charming, Kingsley lean and truly menacing -- because he has feelings and doubts that flesh out his muscle. This first-time effort by director Jonathan Glazer and writers Louis Mellis and David Scinto appears to mine the same territory as Guy Ritchie ("Lock, Stock & Two Barrels" and "Snatch") but is more rounded -- the plot is driven not just by a caper but by character and relationships.
