Shutter Island is the story of a detective who has lost his wife. He's interested in a woman that disappeared from an asylum on the island and finally gets dispatched to work on the case there along with his partner. Once on the island, he meets the woman in a cave and after talking with her begins to question everything. He thinks the food he's been eating and the cigarettes he's been smoking have been drugged and that he's there for observation for going crazy over the death of his wife. He spends most of his time running from authorities and trying to get off the island.

Best part of story, including ending:
I loved this story because there were times when it was hard to tell what was real and what the character was imagining.
Best scene in story:
My favorite scene is probably when the detective blows up a car. He is imagining his dead children standing beside it, but has to blow it up anyway in order to escape.
Opinion about the main character:
I loved all the levels of the character. He really works through what is real/what's not and I thought it was very intriguing.
