John Dobson invented the Dobsonian mount for the telescope mirror and revolutionised back yard astronomy. He regards it as his mission to make people look at the universe outside our known world. The movie follows his efforts to get people on city streets to look at the night sky and appreciate its beauty and meaning. The effect, when he can get someone who has never looked through a telescope before, to look at the moon in close up, is wondrous!

The movie follows him to stargazing parties and academic meetings, and in this small, cheap but eminently worthwhile film, we hear Dobson expound his views on cosmology. Don't be put off by the big words, there's a whole other world out there, and he wants nothing more than that you look at it and think.
