Karen Silkwood blew the whistle on unsafe working conditions at the Oklahoma nuclear facility she was working. This movie is an account of the events leading to the stance against her employers up to the mystery surrounding her death in 1974. Karen Silkwood (Meryl Streep) was a laboratory analyst for Kerr-McGee at its Cimarron plant near Crescent, Oklahoma. Living with a friend Dolly (Cher) and her boyfriend Drew (Kurt Russell), she was another usual worker at the plant. But the day she discovers that she has been contaminated by plutonium, she began to involve herself more in matters concerning her safety as well as that of her co-workers. With support from some union workers in Washington, she starts to gather proof concerning the safety violations at the facility. In the process, she antagonizes her superiors, loses her friends and endangers her life.
