Sleeper Movie Review Summary

Actors: Woody Allen, Diane Keaton

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Sleeper

Miles Monroe, a nerdy health food store owner and clarinet player in Greenwich Village, goes into the hospital for minor surgery and wakes up 200 years later (2174) because the operation was botched and he was cryonically frozen. He's been "thawed" by radicals who seek to overthrow the repressive government and of course enlist his unlikely help. He's quite taken by one of the rebels, lovely Luna Schlosser, who also shows him what the future has turned out to be like: confessional robots, orgasmatrons, that sort of thing. Not too bad, really. Another of Allen's "early, funny" comedies (1973), "Sleeper" has a loose plot, more slapstick than in other Allen movies, and a ramshackle charm. Howard Cosell and Richard Nixon appear in archival footage, Jackie Mason cameos as the voice of a robot tailor, and Keaton does a decent Brando impression.
