Captain Picard senses the presence of an alien collective known as the Borg. Sure enough, these hostile creatures are on a direct course for Earth. Picard and his starfleet crew then engage the Borg while being pulled back in time to the early 21st century. The Borg are attempting to change time so that first contact with an alien species never happens. Picard and his ship, the Enterprise, successfully destroy the Borg ship, but not before a few drones stow away in the Enterprise. What ensues is an intense ship-wide battle for control, while some crewmembers on the Earth are attempting to keep history on track.

When Starfleet detect a borg vessel heading towards Earth, Picard fears the worst - Earth is going to be attacked and assimilated. He and the crew of the Enterprise-E must follow the Borg back in time to stop them preventing the first Warp Ship flight and ensure that Doctor Cochrane makes first contact with an alien species, before assimilating Earth. However, things to not go according to plan when the Doctor turns out to be a drunkard, the Borg invade the Enterprise and Data is taken hostage.
An excellent film - full of intrigue and some great special effects. The Borg are slimy and unstoppable and it's worth watching just to see Deanna Troi get drunk on Tequila...

The Borg have gone back in time to assimilate Earth in the past. The crew of the Enterprise has to ensure first contact between 21st century humans and the Vulcans. 21st century Earth is a miserable post- nuclear world, but first contact will help humanity overcome its problems. This movie embodies what Star Trek is all about. A better future is possible. We can never lose our hope no matter how bad things get.

Captain Picard takes the Enterprise back to the 21st Century to prevent the half-machine Borg from altering the past and preventing the human race from achieving spaceflight. A very action-oriented film that recycles some emotional themes from the TV series, but is high quality.

The Borg have begun their invasion of the Federation. Picard directs a successful attack on a massive Borg cube vessel, but a Borg probe escapes through a "temporal vortex" and Earth now appears to consist of methane, carbon monoxide, and fluorine, and a population of 9 million -- all Borg. Picard must follow the probe back in time to repair the damage. So the Enterprise E travels to April 2063, ten years after the Third World War, when earthlings made "first contact" with another intelligent species in the universe -- a pivotal event which the Borg seek to prevent. Turns out first contact was made by a drunken, scruffy rebel named Dr. Zefram Cochrane (Cromwell hamming it up) aboard a modified nuclear missile. While Picard and the crew battle Borg forces taking over the Enterprise in orbit, Riker, Troi, La Forge and a few others beam down to Montana to make sure Cochrane makes his rendezvous with destiny. Alfre Woodard has a meaty guest role as feisty 21st century engineer Lily Sloane, who gets beamed aboard the Enterprise and prods Picard to take some steps he doesn't want to. An extra thrill are the scenes between Data and the Borg Queen, who has organic flesh grafted onto him and attempts a seduction. This second Next Generation feature (1996) is probably one of the best potential crowd pleasers for the non-Star Trek fan. Trek experts quibble with "irreparable" adjustments to the ST:NG canon -- not the same Cochrane as on the show, a Borg Queen changes the original approach and makeup of the unique Federation threat of the Borg -- but the novice will find this marvelous blend of comedy, horror (director Frakes obviously studied the "Alien" movies closely), and adventure quite satisfying.

The Borg come to Earth to assimilate it by traveling to the past before first contact. They try to stop the Phoenix, the first warp ship preventing humans to make contact with an alien race and begin what is star trek. After the cube is destroyed the Enterprise E follows a small sphere back in time and destroys it. But not in time to prevent the Borg from beaming over to the Enterprise. Now Picard(Patrick Stewart) must deafeat the Borg or fail resulting in the demise of humanity. While First Officer Riker(Frakes) helps restore the Phoenix to working condition and make the warp test in time so that it will be detected and first contact will be made.
