Scott Hastings is a young ballroom dancer with a future. The sole problem with him is his irrepressible need for inventing new dance steps that don't please the australian dance community. When his partner leaves him, he's got only three weeks to find another dancer. Fran, a young beginner at the dance school, convinces him that she could be her partner. Scott will train a lot with the young woman, will fall in love with her and finally impose his new steps on the Australian Dance Authorities.

Strictly Ballroom was the movie that put Baz Lurmann on the map as a director (Romeo& Juilet, Moulin Rouge). It was done in his over the top style. Ballroom has a love story between a novice dancer and a dancer who is well accomplished. Centered around a ballroom dance competition, the film has beautiful costumes and dancing. It's a thrill to watch.
