Bryan Mills is a former U.S. Intelligence Agency operative. His daughter Kim wants to go to Paris with her friend Amanda. After Kim arrives in Paris, she calls Bryan. While she is on the phone with Brian, she sees that there are intruders kidnapping Amanda. Bryan tells Kim to go hide under a bed. She is snatched from under the bed and one of the kidnappers picks up the phone. Bryan tells him that he will find him, and the kidnapper bids him good luck. The girl wearing Kim's jacket gives Bryan information about the house where she met Kim. Bryan goes to the house and confronts the men there, including the guy who said good luck on the phone. He kills all of them and tortures the last one for information about Kim. He finds out that Patrice Saint-Clair bought Kim. Brian goes to infiltrate Saint-Clair's mansion and save Kim.
