In this movie Aaron Eckhart plays the role of a spin artist. His character is named Nick Naylor, a man with perhaps one of the most difficult jobs on the planet. Nick is the public face of the tobacco industry. He spends all his time in front of the cameras doing battle with anti-smoking advocates, cancer victims, and others who would like the entire tobacco industry to fade away.

Nick's job is to get the public to smoke and to promote the tobacco industry as it is a source of income for a lot of people including Nick himself. In addition to playing the role of the tobacco advocate, Nick also has to be a role model to his 12 year old son (Cameron Bright).
David Koechner plays the industry spokesperson named Bobby Jay. He is a close friend of Nick's. Katie Holmes plays a beautiful reporter who is dating Nick only for the story.
Later on in the movie they really start to like each other and Nick gives up his wrongful promotions due to the increased scrutiny of his son, although a death threat also helps to make that decision. he is also strongly opposed by all the enviromentalists in the country the most prominent of whom is Senator Ortolan Finistirre, played by William H. Macy.
"Thank You for Smoking" is one of those films that makes watching movies worthwhile. It has been rated 17 for strong sexual content and also for the fact that its theme may be misleading.

This stylish satire, based on Christopher Buckley's eponymous book, marks the directorial debut of second-generation filmmaker Jason Reitman (son of Ivan).
The film centers on the workplace triumphs and problems of Nick Naylor, a lobbyist for the tobacco industry. For instance, Nick appears on a tv talk show, along with anti-smoking activists and a victim of lung cancer. Nick's gift for thinking on his feet, along with his telegenic good looks, win over the initially antagonistic audience. Nick goes on to meet with a powerful tobacco tycoon, who sends him to Hollywood to broker a deal in which more movie characters will be shown smoking on screen. We also see Nick conferring with two pals, a spokeswoman for the alcohol industry and a publicist touting firearms.(They're known as the Merchants of Death, aka the M.O.D. Squad.) However, their friendship, as well as Nick's job, are imperiled after Nick beds and opens up to a comely young reporter. At this point, Nick has to figure out how to repair his friendships, rescue his career, and remain a role model to his young, adoring son.
