François works by night while Anne is a daytime secretary. One morning, François sees Christian, Anne's ex-boyfriend, leaving the building with her. The young man will spend the day following Christian in the streets of Paris.

Meanwhile, Christian has just told Anne he's breaking up with her, and Anne is trying to overcome her sorrow. But François is harrassing her with questions about the reason she's still seeing Christian causing her to become more and more angry with him.
