Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Children's Hour

A troubled student in a small school spreads rumors that the two headmistresses (Hepburn and MacLaine) are lesbians. Though they are nothing more than friends (one of them is even engaged to her boyfriend) they cannot convince the people in the town that the child is lying. This causes a huge scandel the school is forced to close.

As they are about to leave town, the truth comes out. The accuser's grandmother apologizes, but at this point too much emotional damage has been done to the women.

In a stunning and remarkable scene, MacLaine's character reveals that she is in fact in love with Hepburn's character.
